GNOTRI and Beyond
After
4 days of USA Triathlon Coaching Clinics in Colorado Springs,
the “Beyond” now means beyond training by experience
only. We can now combine our experience with proven training
methods from USA Triathlon. These coaching clinics are now sponsored by
the United States Olympic Committee. Why, because as coaches
the USOC has a need for us to embrace their Pipeline for the
Future
Campaign.
The timing could not have been better for Kevin and I to be included
not only with the USAT Coaching Certification but the annual
USAT Congress.
TDF Commentator Bob Roll
was the featured speaker for
the 4-day assembly. We were "rolling in the isles" for
about an hour as he lead us behind the scenes of the TDF/OLN coverage.
We were given the inside scoop why he says Tour Day France… ask
why. Race Directors from around the country, including our
own Bill Burke with Premier Events were engaged in round table
discussions
on ITU style racing, Xterra circuit, the pipeline to develop
future triathletes, volunteering and more.
The very best of triathlon coaches conducted clinic and discussed
the latest tri training techniques. It's not often when you
have Scott Schnitzpahn, Dennis DePriest, Alan Ley and the legendary
Bobby McGee talk in length about such subjects as periodization,
the economy of running, specific training, and key workouts
in
all disciplines. Like I said the timing is perfect to bring
back this information at the beginning of our base training.
It's that time of the year again; time to get our race and
training schedules together. The past few months have been
a challenge
for all of us and it feels great to look ahead to the up coming
season,
group rides, runs and just being back training with all our
friends.
With that said, lets move along to brief summary
of what our Member’s
Only Site can expect.
• How to correctly train for a specific race/distance.
• How to improve your overall performance
• Dialing in hydration and nutrition
• Building your run, cycle and swim base
• Strength Training and more...Sprint Distances:
A general rule of thumb for base training and for those entering
the sport is a training duration of approximately 1x-3x the
length of the specific event.
Ex. 750m swim – 20k bike – 5k run
Training sessions for the each discipline will range from:
750m – 2.3k swim: 20k – 60k bike; and 5k – 15k
run
And like I mentioned before, during your base training(now),
we should train in each discipline at least twice a
week. A recreational triathlete training 1hour a day, 6 days
a week
will comfortably
finish an event of this distance. This schedule is
perfect for New Roads/ Louisiana Tri in April. How about Gulf
Coast 1/2 IM
May 12th? Or Gulfman 1/2 IM in April 2?
This is the
perfect
time to access our 12 week periodization plan. If
you have any questions
specific to your tri-training you can e-mail us at:
